As the Five Nights at Freddy's movie adaptation approaches its release date in cinemas on October 27 and on Peacock a day earlier, the people behind it have been expressing their desire to make sequels if this one does well enough.
The aspiration of turning FNAF into a movie series as big as the video games has always been there, since there's so much source material and obscure lore to work with. In fact, actor Matthew Lillard casually said a few months ago during a Magic the Gathering stream that he had signed a three-movie deal (a common practice by studios just to be safe). But more serious comments hadn't started to pop up until now, when director Emma Tammi and Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum have begun talking to the press at length.
At NYCC 2023, Blum had some fun ideas of potential crossovers to do if everything lined up correctly. Meanwhile, Tammi has outright said she hopes to be able to do a sequel and even a trilogy if audiences respond well to this movie. Speaking to Inverse, she stated: "Yes, I would for sure. I think we would all be really excited to dive into that if this one does well, and if it seems like audiences have an appetite for that, we would be so excited to make it." This is pretty much the same answer she gave SFX Magazine at the end of September.
Five Nights at Freddy's could easily be the biggest movie in cinemas come Halloween next week, as it'll open in theaters this Friday, October 27, and probably ride a wave of online buzz and real-life chatter into the spookiest night of the year. Peacock users, meanwhile, will be able to enjoy it at home starting October 26.
