At his first audition, Kayo didn't even know what a headshot was!

We've all had moment when we were beginners, and Our Flag Means Death's Samson Kayo is no different. At the Rhys Darby, Vico Ortiz, and Samson Kayo Spotlight panel at MCM Comic Con 2023 (which you can watch here with a Popverse membership), moderator Veronica Valencia (Popverse's very own) asked the panelists about their first audition experiences.

Kayo shared a funny anecdote about being a fish out of water at his first audition. "I just remember going into this place with a bunch of guys who looked like me," Kayo shares.

"I didn't have a clue, to be honest." But before he went and did the audition, he had to send in a headshot. According to Kayo, "I didn't know what a headshot was, so I took a selfie and sent it to the production." Kayo even adds, laughing, that the photo was even taken at a selfie angle, not at a straight angle. Not surprisingly, the production responded to him that he needed a real headshot.

After Kayo headed out to get a proper headshot came the sticker shock for that expense. "A hundred and WHAT?!" Kayo reenacted dramatically for the audience. But of course, he had to get the headshot done for the audition... and he's been using that very same headshot ever since.
